“Sometimes it’s necessary for God to allow us to go through certain dire situations to not only strengthen our credibility in the matter, but to also be a testimony to those who are still living and hurting in the village.” – Cherelle
So Cherelle, tell us who you are?
My name is Cherelle Ward, I am a Baltimore Native. I am a survivor of so many things. Both of my maternal parents died at such a young age which left a loneliness that is hard to describe. I was raised by my maternal grandparents until I was the age of 18 years old. I am a Sexual assualt, domestic violence and an attempted suicide survivor. I currently work for a medical insurance company for almost 5 years, and I am currently working to serve my community by starting my organization Get Your Crown Back to assist those in the community and prayfully globally. I am a young woman with a plan, and I am ready to execute slowly and gradually. I am currently writing two books simultaneously which the released date will be later confirmed via any of my social media pages. I have no children, and a lot of time on my hands. I am a God fearing woman and a Child of The Most High God. I believe in the impossible and I believe in the impossible for other people.
Tell us about your business and your why?
Get Your Crown back is a non profit organization in the making to heal and minister to broken people outside of the four walls of the church. Get your crown back’s mission is to discovering the real you through prayer, gifts and talents, resources and also helping those in the community to provide prevention tactics, safety plans from bullying, domestic violence, gun violence, sexual assault and suicide prevention. I started my business, because I have a heart towards broken people, because I was broken in so many ways which led me to feel like nobody understood me. I thought, ”Nobody gets me”, until I realized that if you see there is a problem in the world, and there is no solution, then God will use you as a vessel to create the solution to make life better for people.
What Experience or Expertise do you hold that you feel helps you be successful today?
I would say my experience with my own struggles as a young woman trying to discover who I am, and not allow my struggles or mistakes to determine who I am or where I’m going. Due to me losing both of my parents at an early age, being raised by my maternal grandparents, also surviving date rape as well as domestic violence twice. I have a passion and a heart for wounded people who are in need of answers. When I look at a wounded person, I can’t help but to see myself in them and that is what makes me want to help them.
I am a new Entrepreneur but has learned some great lessons. Here are 3 things I feel every business owner should know…
1. How to be Relatable
2. How to be Relevant
3. How to be Relational
What has been the hardest part about running your Business/Brand/Vision?
Oh, wow. Finding the right team of people who care about your vision and its importance just as much as you do. Also, finances as far as investors that will see my vision as a great benefit for the community, but I am not worried about that too much, because God will provide.
What is your favorite part and worst part of what you do?
My favorite part is meeting all kinds of people and them trusting me with their stories as well as their vulnerabilities. The worst part is sometimes I attract people who don’t want help or just maybe not ready to receive it which sometimes can kind of suck because I want to help everybody that I come into contact with, but the most rewarding part that I’ve discovered is that I can’t want people’s healing more than they do and that little revelation there gives me peace.
How you are intentionally changing the narrative?
I am going to change the narrative because what my organization will do is create a place where transparency is in style and is safe to exercise. People are too ashamed to be transparent or are being told it’s not allowed when in fact sometimes transparency is the gateway to freedom. And if I had to choose between being a prisoner of falsely living like I have it all together or exceeding transparency for my freedom…then I will have to choose transparency unapologetically and I hope other people do too.
Tell us a secret fact about you?
Ummm, I am sucker for Starbucks. Also, I have a strict unshakable belief that I will be writing my own plays and movies in the nearby future.
If you could have anything in the world what would it be?
I would have my mother back for five minutes and just hug her for as tightly as I could.
The Crazy Like A Fox Tour Brunch which will be located in Baltimore, Md on Saturday, July 27th from 11am-4pm.
