The Circus?….The Constitution?
By Stacy King-Chaney
Peanuts! Get your peanuts! A call out from the vendor to sell peanuts to those seated at the circus, enjoying the acts performed by trained animals, clowns, acrobatic entertainers, and flaming hoops for animals to jump through. The Ring Leader stirs up the crowd and draws their focus to paying attention to the performances within the 3 rings, as other acts are being prepped to perform without the audience noticing there is something happening behind the scene. There is the selling of hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn and soda to satisfy the sweet tooth, the urge to chew, and desire to fill the belly, yet adding little to no nourishment to the body; ingesting just for the sake of instant gratification. Don’t forget the glitz of the light up and/or noise making souvenir to carry home, as a reminder of the entertainment that you enjoyed for that moment in time. These are just a few elements of a circus. It is for entertainment purposes only. Yes, that is the circus.
Whistle Blowers! Witnesses! A call out from the Congress to gather facts and evidence to proceed with Impeachment Hearings, as those seated at home or in the Hearings pensively listen to sworn testimony of the Witnesses, who have been served a subpoena. The swearing in. The Opening Statement. The questions asked. The questions answered. All these are part of the proceedings of an Impeachment Hearing. The Chairman of the Hearings calls to order the Proceedings, stating the rules, regulations and the do’s and the don’ts that are permitted. He draws the attention to the Witness, who is about to give sworn testimony, as the members of the Congressional Impeachment Hearing Committee, prepare their line of questioning out of the eyesight of those watching. Assistants take notes, pass notes, files and information, in preparation for the next House of Representative up to question the Witness. Lawyers are seated to lend legal advice, as needed. Security is stationed to provide a safe environment. Media is posed to present live coverage, stream online, take photos, and report the Proceedings to keep all, who are watching “well-informed.” There is water provided for the thirsty. There is a “Recess” granted for the Witness and the Congressional Members to take a Break. These are just a few elements of the Impeachment Hearings. It is for the upholding of the Constitution of the United States of America and securing the Republic for the people and by the people. Yes, this is the purpose of Impeachment Hearings.
As the Impeachment Hearings have been taking place, it has often been referred to within the Opening Statements, as a circus. Having a brief overview of both, is Impeachment a circus for our entertainment or is it a Hearing for upholding the Constitution? Did the Founding Fathers construct a Constitution or did they construct a circus? If the provisions provided within the Constitution give way for Impeachment Hearings to be conducted and those provisions have been met, then is this a circus? Or is it conducted like a circus? Is there a Peanut Vendor? Is there a Ring Leader? Are there clowns? Are there trained animals to perform? Are there things being sold that do not nourish a nation but, are for the ingesting of instant gratification? Are there “sound-bites” for us to carry home to remember for just a moment in time? If the answer is “yes” to any of the questions, then have we moved to conducting Impeachment Hearings, as a circus? If the answer is “no,” to any of the questions, then should we continue to publically call the Impeachment Hearings that were given provision by the Founding Fathers, as a circus? It is either a Circus or a Constitutional provision for the people and by the people. Considering all these things, it is up to the citizens of the United States of America, if they want to attend a Circus and be entertained for a brief moment in time or if they want to uphold the Constitution of the United States for a life-time.
The Impeachement. The Circus? The Constitution?
