“I have a story to tell about my past. I feel like as women, we often judge each other more than we should and that leaves uncalled for separation. I’m doing my part to bridge the gap!”- Melanin
Event Planner and Woman’s Wellness Consultant Melanin Vallejos is from Brooklyn NY and Empowering Women is her passion! Featured on News 12 Brooklyn @MelaninBoss Visionary Melanin Vallejos is changing the narrative. Hosting and Sponsoring Women Wellness Events and Services has allowed her business to work towards her ultimate goal of empowerment. Seeing the need for a safe empowering space for women Melanin created this space and promotes and celebrates women. Her business is her passion, she loves getting people together, women especially; to share ideas, network, laugh, cry with no judgement and in a safe place. In the last 4 years she has increased her services and events to impact more. Melanin has had her share of lessons in business and feels every business owner should know these 3 things,
1. Don’t let slow progress discredit you.
2. Nothing is wrong with taking advice.
3. Don’t stop until you conquer everything!
I asked Melanin why she started this empowerment business? “I feel like as women, we often get over looked if we don’t look a certain way or act a certain way. My goal is to show others that you can still be professional and fully dressed and still be successful.” Many women in the business world now are also having to adapt to the social media trends. We see the requirements for men and women continue to be unbalanced. Being able to be professional and successful without trading and compromising your integrity has been something women have had to face in the corporate and professional arena. While she is successful today Melanin notes the hardest part about running her business,”The hardest part is trying to send out positive messages in a world that’s basically ran by social media and reality shows. Sometimes it’s hard to get women to come out to women’s empowernment events.” With the introduction of key speakers and the overall increase in awareness of self love and empowerment Melanin knows her resources and services will significantly affect those seeking resources the encouraging support they need! Melanin feels, “I have a lot of experience speaking with people of all walks of life. This help when it comes down to dealing with different personalities and backgrounds. I’m also very good at making people feel comfortable, which in turns makes them open up and speak freely.” She believes these this coupled with her passion keeps her relatable, successful and intune with those she serves.
Reflecting on all that was before Melanin says she would tell her 20 year old self,
“Please start putting money to the side so you can open your own event space in the near future.”
Continuing to give back, Melanin has monthly pop up shops. She allows small business owners to come and showcase and sell their products. “With all the traffic that comes in and out, it allows them to attract new customers and also other businesses they can network with.” She also holds a Women’s Empowerment Event where they discuss issues such as fertility, weight loss, infidelity, relationships and etc. The last one was highlighted by News 12 during Women’s History month!
