THE 50TH CELEBRATION OF THE DOVE AWARDS
“Going behind the scenes and seeing God!”
By Stacy King-Chaney/Gospel Editor
If I were asked to sum up the 50th Celebration of the Dove Awards in one word, I would sum it up as, AMAZING!” It almost seems to be an understatement to use just one word. However, when you are seated behind the scenes and have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with some of the most gifted and talented persons singing Gospel Music, it is an amazing experience. When you get to stand side by side with those who have such an anointing that the oil upon their life is evident in the music, it is an amazing experience.
However, the more that I had an opportunity to listen to the Gospel Artist speak about their music and their lives, I realized that it was not about 50 years of Dove Awards that these Artist were focused upon. It was about the amazing movement of God in each life. There was not one Gospel Artist, who did not give the highest praise and honor to the Lord for their accomplishments in music or the triumphs in their life. No, it was not form nor fashion that provoked praise. It was gratitude that invoked worship, praise and joy, as they spoke of God’s movement and inspiration for the music that they render to glorify God and benefit others.
Tasha Cobb Leonard did not speak about being the Dove Award winner for Gospel Worship Song of the Year, “This is a Move.” When asked about being a winner, Ms. Leonard stated, “The Kingdom is rumbling and there is about to be a wave of glory to hit the earth.” She expressed what is being seen within the church and moving throughout the Gospel Industry was not just gift and talent. But, it is the movement of God. However, Ms. Leonard was not the only Artist to make this type of claim. When we were privileged to interview For King & Country, who won a Dove Award for their song, “God Only Knows,” they stated that, “On some occasions, you write the song and on other occasions, the song writes you.” They explained that the melody and lyrics of this song seemed to have a hold of them. It seemed to be something that they could not let go. As the lyrics filled their heart and the melody filled the pages, the song was writing their life story. They indicated that it is God’s finger that write’s your life’s story. Their statement caused many of the Journalist to pause before moving forward with more questions.
There were numerous Gospel Artist with amazing quotes that could fill a book. However, to close this article it would be befitting to quote Kathy Lee Gifford. Ms. Gifford stated that she was not retired just because she was no longer on daytime TV. God was not through with her and that each of us must realize that, “If you have a pulse, then you have a purpose.” Ms. Gifford explained that we must seek God’s purpose and move within that purpose. She was firm in stating that each of us must make the determination that “God is sovereign or He is not.” God reigned supreme in her life and her winning at the Dove Awards was about the sovereignty and purpose of God in her life.
It is because of quotes such as the aforementioned, that covering the Dove Awards from behind the scenes was an amazing experience. It is because behind the scenes of the Dove Awards, God could be seen.
