Getting Outside from Your Comfort Zone
The journey to and through Entrepreneurship can feel like a Roller-coaster Ride. One day you are riding high and the next day it can feel like things are barreling downward! Fear and Doubt are usually the causes for this Roller-coaster ride.
Beverly is an Award-Winning Educator who changed her Life when she decided to push past fear and doubt to start a new career after 14 years! During those 14 years, she also started 3 businesses (which had a bigger impact on her than she realized at the time).
She has been able to conquer Fear and Self-doubt by stepping out on faith and deciding that she wanted more control over her time and financial freedom. That is why Beverly Walthour from Atlanta, Published Co-Author of the Book, Tying the Knot between Ministry and Marketplace, Vol.1, addresses them in her Chapter: “Fear doesn’t Live Here Anymore: Kick Fear to the Curb and Finally Start Your Business.
This leap of faith started because she knew deep down that GOD has something greater for her than what she was doing as an Educator. Although she was not 100% sure what was going to happen when she walked away from that career after 14 years, she knew that whatever it was, it was going to push her outside her comfort zone.
However, that leap of faith actually started 7 years into her career as an educator. Acting on the advice of a trusted friend and fellow educator, she took her 1st leap of faith by resigning from her Job and open a Tutoring Business.
Unfortunately, she was not prepared for the demands of being a full-time entrepreneur. Although she was an award-winning educator and knew how to teach, she did not prepare herself mentally for the role of entrepreneur. About 6 months into her new role, fear and doubt start creeping in. Although she was able to get clients, it was not consistent.
So, she went back to the Safety and Security of her career as an Educator. At least there, she knew how much she would make every month. However, at that point she had been bitten by the entrepreneurial bug.
Although she was back in the classroom, she was never 100% happy there. So, after another 7 years, she stepped out on faith and resigned AGAIN.
She went into the field of training (after telling herself for YEARS that teaching was all she could do). However, during that transition, she started 2 more Businesses. People were always asking her how she was able to do it.
After doing some research, she realized that she could use her business experience plus her experience as an educator and trainer to teach women who to start their own businesses.
From that realization, she became a certified Business Strategist for Christian Female Coaches and Consultants.
When she reflects on everything it felt like a rollercoaster ride. However, she would NOT change the route she had to take to get there for anything in the world. Having this experience and getting outside her comfort zone enables her to connect with her clients. She’s been through what they are experiencing!

The 2nd book: “Tying the Knot between Ministry and Marketplace, Vol. 2” is being Launched in April during the Faith and Business Gathering event that takes place in Memphis.

‘Overcoming’ Torrential Waters by Cedric Nettles
Torrential Waters was my hard hitting, emotional journey of a ‘gifted’ young man coping with new found fame and a very low opinion of himself. I shared my childhood of having a poor self image and being bullied. I also shared the power of God’s hands on you, and His ability to show favor on your life, even when you don’t think you are ready. I laugh , because
at times I feel I am living Torrential Waters in some respects now. You will relate as well after you finish reading.
I don’t pull punches in Torrential Waters, because life does not. This piece is by Chrystan Johnson and expresses what she felt after reading Torrential Waters. We all have to know we have a purpose to our pain. We have an assignment, something we have to do before we take that last breath. That one thing you think that does not matter serves a higher purpose. I want to encourage everyone to go as hard as you can in this life, to grow, to serve, to be all you are called to be.
I was honored to read this review, this sums it up
Excellent read! Bought the book, but due to some medical/eye problems, could not read it for a few months. Finally got that fixed (!) and finished Nettles’ “Torrential Waters” within a day and a half! One of those books you just don’t want to end! Wonderful insight into faith, family, relationships, forgiveness of others as well as one’s self, hope for the future and the ever-enduring spirit of the human soul. I highly recommend for readers of any age. I hope Mr. Nettles has more (perhaps a series?!), but if not a series about this character, than at least more books planned for the future. The author’s own story itself is book-worthy; I personally would love to see him write an autobiography on how much he’s overcome in his own life. Meanwhile – buy the book! You won’t be disappointed.-Jan Harvin
