Following the November 14th release of the NCAA College Football Playoff rankings, one thing has come into focus. The committee finally has a backbone.
Those who complain of something called “southern bias” aren’t going to be satisfied with the content of this article. You’ve been warned. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s talk about college football and the most recent NCAA College Football Playoff rankings.
Following a weekend where the Georgia Bulldogs walked into Jordan–Hare Stadium and got pimp-slapped by the Auburn Tigers, we knew there would be a new number one team in the country. It is, and it’s the team that most people, myself included, thought should have been the number one team all along, the Alabama Crimson Tide. Rounding out the committee’s picks for the other top three ranked teams in the country are the Clemson Tigers (2), the Miami Hurricanes (3) and the Oklahoma Sooners (4).
Take a look.

Finally, the committee has shown some guts. They don’t care that you’ll complain about a College Football Playoff with four teams from the south, and frankly, I don’t either.
So, what does all of this mean?
Now, back to that “southern bias” thing. One thing that probably jumped out at you is the fact that this ranking is void of both a PAC-12 team and a representative of the Big Ten. That will create a ton of complaints, but it would be wise that you get over that quickly. These are clearly the four best teams in the country right now. Sure, this is a fact that will change several times before the regular season concludes. Both Clemson and Miami won’t get in once it’s all said and done. It’s highly unlikely that two teams from the ACC will wind up in the College Football Playoff, but right now, are there any teams in the Pac-12 or Big Ten who deserve to be there?
Don’t you dare say the Wisconsin Badgers. I love the fact that the committee has made a stand and said they won’t reward a team just for being undefeated. The Badgers are obviously getting minimal consideration, and it’s punishment for the fact that they decided to create a weak out-of-conference schedule for themselves to ensure wins.
I’ll say it again, those of you who are angry because, as of right now, we have an all-southern CFP will be okay. I will give you a consolation prize however. If Wisconsin wins out and wins the Big Ten Championship Game, it’s going to be hard to keep them out of the discussion.
P.S. Watch out for Auburn. If they win out and beat Alabama in the “Iron Bowl”, they’ll work themselves into the picture and kick their rivals out of the frame.
If you don’t love college football, just go play in traffic. No, I’m kidding. You shouldn’t do that for real. Living in the world we live in has taught me that you can’t say such things because someone will try it, and they’ll then say that they were influenced by the content of articles like this one, so let’s try this again.
If you don’t love college football, you have no idea what you’ve been missing. Yes. That sounds better.
