It’s official— 19 year old Malia Obama with the help of her parents Barack Obama and Michelle Obama has moved into her new residence at Harvard University.
The former first daughter graduated from high school in 2015, but elected to delay enrollment at Harvard with the hopes of taking full advantage of the gap year.
At the time, Malia participated in a 2016 summer internship at the U.S. Embassy in Spain before a stint in the Big Apple for an internship with the Weinstein Co. Although Malia has expressed an interest in filmmaking, it is unclear what she will study at Harvard.
The accomplished teen is no stranger to filmmaking—in 2014, Malia worked as production assistant on the set of Extant with Halle Berry and the next year landed an internship working on the set of Girls.
Show creator Lena Dunham had nothing but positive things to say regarding Malia’s work ethic, telling Howard Stern, “She’s an angel. Obviously, we weren’t making her go get our coffee, but she wanted to do all the jobs — that was the cool thing.”
Following in the footsteps of her parents Barack and Michelle, who both call the Ivy League university their alma mater, it should not come as a surprise that Malia would enter Harvard as an accomplished and enthusiastic student.
Former POTUS and FLOTUS accompanied Malia on the Harvard University campus on Monday, as the former First Daughter moved into an on-campus residence, for her first year of college.
Malia mingled among other students, appearing to become more acquainted with students on the campus situated in the Cambridge Mass area. Dressed casually in a black slip over dress over and graphic tee with white sneakers, she appeared relaxed among her peers.
Over the course of the next few days, as most college students entering a new campus, Malia will have the opportunity to become more acclimated to college life—the academic year will begin next Wednesday, August 30th.
As the Boston Globe notes, former President Barack Obama was spotted at Harvest restaurant in Harvard Square on Monday, one day before the official “move-in” day of the Class of 2021. According to a spokesperson for the university some students decide to “move in a day early, based on travel schedules, athletic schedules, or other needs.”
News travels fast—upon Malia’s arrival pictures and video of Malia, Barack, Michelle, and several Secret Service agents at Harvard started making the rounds on social media.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama graduated from Harvard Law School in 1988 with a Juris doctor degree and the president received the same degree three years later.
The best of success to Malia! Walter Scott once said—“For success and attitude are equally as important as ability.” Malia Obama has likely been inspired by her parents as she honors their legacy with Scott’s quote at the fore of her dreams—if anyone can uphold the Obamas esteemed Harvard legacy, it’s their daughter, the Harvard freshman.
