The Old You VS. The New You
The old you is not qualified to take you to your new destination…
I remember those nights sleeping in the car and sleeping in the dark hallways of projects buildings. I remember I could’ve gone to my Mom’s house at any point. I could have knocked on the door and she would have let me in. But I would have had to admit that I had made mistakes. And I would have had to live by her rules. So because of that, I was out on the streets. I was eating terrible food. I would eat cups noodles daily, I would cut up Slim-Jims and add them in. That would be my protein. I just didn’t want to follow the rules, and follow the process.
The old me didn’t understand that great processes are what built great empires. The old me didn’t recognize that I was already following a process, a unsuccessful one. I can go on and on about the gaps that were stopping the old me from moving forward. By me taking the time that was needed to understand how these gaps were negatively impacting my life I was able to make the necessary adjustments and give birth to the New Me. This is not something that you only do one time and be done. You will have to create a New You for every new level that you wish to dominate.
Take some time to sit down and identify the gaps in your life that are holding you back from creating the new you and dominating a new level.
Let’s Be Honest
You must believe that the person in the mirror controls your future.
You’re in the hunt to achieve something, and that’s great! I want you to think about how you felt when you first came up with the idea: you were excited and your body was “on fire” with anticipation! You’ve got to get that feeling back. When that feeling goes away, that means that you’re “fire is going out”. When that happens, you need to find something to rekindle that fire. You have to refuel your body when it feels hungry or tired. You have to refuel your car when the gas tank approaches empty, it’s the same with your goals. When you realize this, you’ll try to keep the (goal) tank as close to full as possible. Find a way to stay self-motivated when chasing your goals. When you find a way to do this, your life accelerates, your goals come closer and you’ll find the energy to overcome obstacles and setbacks.
It is so easy for us to be honest about what other people should be doing with their lives, whether it’s about family, business, or personal matters. We take our time to think it over and give them our two cents whether they want it or not, and we even say, “I’m just being honest.” It’s not so easy to be honest with ourselves, so we just figure out a way to justify every situation in our favor. When I started to be honest with myself about everything in my life—such as being a high school dropout, a drug dealer, homeless, disrespectful to my mother and my community, etc.—I was able to make the necessary changes to keep my fire lit.
Personal Development Starts Here
We tend to avoid personal development as it can be very uncomfortable; unless it’s done correctly.
Everything that you demand in life is there waiting for you. It starts and ends with you, you are the creator of your fears and doubts; but you are also the mastermind of taking that first step into personal advancement. What is holding you back from taking that initial leap that could change your life forever? With this being stated, I want to share a few life-changing steps that will guide you in your journey of personal development:
Place a value on yourself that you are willing to live up to. Set goals that are attainable. Once you are finished with one, think of another that is seen as more challenging but not impossible. Knowing your capability increases your confidence and so will the value that you put on yourself. Push yourself beyond your comfort zone. If you’re not comfortable, it is an opportunity to learn and grow. Challenge yourself to be grateful but never satisfied. Remind yourself every morning that you have absolutely nothing to lose; but everything to gain in the process of developing the best you.
When I realized that mindset and work ethic are two key factors in personal development; I was able to differentiate between one who is successful and one who would like to be successful. This was when I began to study people differently and noticed that growth was part of a go-getter’s routine. It is set in stone and entailed daily.
