Let’s start by talking about PURPOSE. What is Purpose? Everyone seems to be talking about it. The answer is simple: Your PURPOSE is the reason God sent you here. It’s the one thing you do that lights your heart on FIRE and when you’re doing it time flies by and outside noises can be happening and you can’t even hear it because you’re so in your zone. That’s how you know you are doing something that is associated with your PURPOSE, it just feels RIGHT. Now let’s discuss PAIN. We’ve all experienced it before right. It’s one of the basic human emotions and none of us will leave this earth without experiencing some form of failure, disappointment, heartbreak, death, accident, mistake or tragedy. It’s inevitable!
Let’s do a visual exercise together! Think back to when you experienced extreme PAIN in your life and then ask yourself how did that event/circumstance help you. Many times it makes you stronger, it teaches you how to stand alone, it gets you closer with God and ultimately you start to think in ways you had never done before.
If you haven’t figured out your PURPOSE yet don’t worry! I didn’t figure mine out until I was 29. Until then I thought my destiny was to be a publicist and event coordinator until I died and that was it (smile) It wasn’t until I got sick and after surgery I had to finally rest and be quiet for a while that’s when I finally asked myself what makes ME HAPPY because for a while there I didn’t think I would survive this obstacle and I didn’t want to leave this earth without doing what truly made me happy! I realized then my joy comes from helping people who are lost find their way back.
So what does religion have to say about PURPOSE IN LIFE:
•The Holy Bible says this: “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21)
•The Holy Quran says this: Did you then think that We created you in vain, and that you would not be returned to us? The Holy Quran 23:115
•Gautama Buddha said this: Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it”
Based on these teachings it’s pretty clear they all seem to agree that finding your purpose is the ONLY way to fulfill your plan for God and it’s pretty clear we are supposed to pursue our purpose with all of our heart! It’s also clear God has a plan for us because He wouldn’t just send us here to send us here…He had a plan in mind when He created us.
Once I figured out my PURPOSE everything started to all of a sudden make sense! I started to love myself in a way I had never before because instead of being upset with myself for picking the wrong guy or making myself sick I now knew that everything that has happened to be was not done TO ME but FOR ME to guide me closer to my PURPOSE.
Finding your purpose is important because it’s the only thing that will give you complete happiness and we as humans have a craving for happiness and we look for it in so many different ways and if we were to just remember our purpose most of our toxic behaviors would disappear. That would lead to less unnecessary pain in the world.
Many of you might be thinking ok great so what if I find my purpose in life and then I realize it has nothing to do with the degree I’m seeking in college or what if you’re already in your career. Don’t worry shifting from a career driven life to a purpose driven life is possible! It is NEVER easy to leave what is normal…our career, our major, what society says is normal, what our parents think is dignified but if we continue to do what other want for us versus what God wants for us we will continue to walk around dissatisfied buying new cars, purses, houses, getting new girlfriends thinking that will fill that VOID….the only thing that fills that whole is figuring out why you are here and doing things that fulfill that mission.
I would like to leave you with three final points that I hope lead you to discovering your purpose:
1-Your PURPOSE is the reason God sent you to this earth and no one but you can do what GOD sent you to do. You must be brave to step into the shoes God has set for you.
2-When you are doing an action that is aligned with your PURPOSE you feel the most alive. Before you know it you will only want to engage in actions aligned with your purpose because in a strange way being of purpose to God gives us this sense of pride that carries us through any difficult day.
3-When you are chasing your PURPOSE God provides a way always….you may think how can I achieve ________….don’t worry about that part! God will always provide a way when you are working for His purpose.
